What is Monkey Kung Fu?
There are three Chinese Monkey styles. Tai Shing Pek Kwar, Shaolin Monkey and Wu Shu Monkey. This particular style is Tai Shing Pek Kwar or more commonly referred to in America as Monkey Kung Fu. It is a very unorthodox and extremely secretive form of kung fu. The lineage is so short, it can be traced back to just seven generations (with the 3rd generation still living). It is a very powerful artform and is so difficult, only a handful of people have endured its training.
Learning the Art
GM Michael Matsuda has just relocated the Monkey Kung Fu class from Santa Clarita to North Hollywood, CA. Because of the new location, all new students are welcome to learn the art (previously, he was only training advanced students). Classes meet every Thursday from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
You can also learn the art of Monkey Kung Fu through DVD. Matsuda is putting 15 dvds on learning and mastering the complete Monkey Kung Fu and is certifying teachers in the art as well.
Grandmaster Michael Matsuda
Successor to the art is Grandmaster Michael Matsuda (he prefers to be called just master or sifu). He is the 6th generation of the art and the only active teacher of Monkey Kung Fu in America. He is certified by the U.S. Tai Shing Pek Kwar Association and inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum's HALL OF FAME in 2004.
